the grapes that tell the story of the land

Erbaluce

has always been bound to this land

Erbaluce has long been part of Canavese farming life, adapting to a variety of winemaking styles.

In 1967 it was awarded Denominazione di Origine Controllata status for both its dry white and passito versions, making it the first white wine in Piedmont to receive the distinction. In 1988 the sparkling version followed.

In 2010 all three versions were elevated to Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita, making Erbaluce the only Italian grape variety versatile enough to produce all three possible styles of wine: dry white, Metodo Classico and sweet passito.

A captivating legend has grown up around this grape variety.

Tradition tells of Albaluce, a radiant nymph who lived on our hills, beloved for her grace and the light she carried with her.

From her tears, fallen to the earth, new life was born: the first Erbaluce vines, sprung from the heart of the sun and the sweetness of dawn.

Barbera

the oldest memory of the Canavese

Alongside our production of Erbaluce in its many expressions, which today is the most recognisable and distinctive soul of the territory, we also continue to cultivate the oldest memory of the Canavese.

In the past, our hills were home to a far greater number of red grape varieties, which have since been largely replaced by Erbaluce.

From this tradition comes our only red wine: Acinisparsi, made from 85% Barbera and the remaining 15% from Nebbiolo and Neretto di Bairo, the classic red grapes grown in the Canavese during the 1900s.
